AMAZON PRIME DAY – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Amazon Prime Day usually happens in July but it’s 2020 and nothing is normal, em’ I right?!  The two-day e-Commerce event is still happening, it’s just happening in October instead.  Starting tomorrow, October 13 the Amazon Prime sale will begin and run for two days.  Here are some questions and answers about the Amazon Prime Day event!

Do I need to be an Amazon Prime member?
Yes.  The most economical plan is an annual membership at $119 or you can pay $12.99 per month (comes to $155.88 year).  Discounts are available for students.  More information HERE

What is on sale?
Last year there were  a lot of deals on electronics, appliances (large and small) and household items.  This year expect to see the best deals on Amazon devices (Fire tablets, TV streaming sticks, Echo smart speakers and Kindles).  Non-Amazon brands expected to show up with some deals are expected from Apple, Dyson, Roomba and Instant Pot.

What is the average discount on Prime Day deals?
20% is a good estimate.  If you see deals that are 60-70% off, that is NOT accurate.  Those deals are ALMOST ALWAYS starting out with an elevated MSRP or high starting asking price.  Don’t fall for it.

Is this the best time to buy holiday gifts?
There will certainly be some great prices on certain items but I am almost certain that the deals  offered during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales are going to edge out Prime Day in regards to getting the very best deals.

Will the sale be as good as last year?
I think so.  However, keep in mind product categories that are still recovering from a supply chain disruption due to the pandemic.  For example, gym equipment sales were high the past 6 months because everyone was working out at home.  Therefore, those products are still restocking so don’t expect to see deals on these and other certain products that are still recovering.

What is the best and worst things I can buy for Prime Day this year?
Shop this sale if you are looking for any Amazon branded devices (Alexa, Ring, Eero).  Even the newer Amazon devices such as the Echo Buds and Amazon Halo fitness tracker are said to be part of this sale.

The worst purchase is anything you buy hastily.  Don’t let countdown clocks and flash sale drives make you think the purchase is urgent or you will “miss out”.  If you don’t need it, haven’t already thought about it or if it doesn’t fit into your life…don’t buy it.

What are some Prime Day shopping hacks?

  • Add yourself to waitlist for lighting deal items you missed (if an item sold out while in your cart, you can get an alert when it restocks).
  • Add items you have eye on to a wish list via “Add to List” button (adjust setting on Amazon app to get notification when item becomes available).
  • Take advantage of price matching (Best Buy and Walmart both offer price matching).
