CHOOSING AN OUTDOOR RUG

Three.  That’s how many 7 x 10 outdoor rugs were delivered to my house yesterday.  It is going to be tough choosing an outdoor rug.

I’ve been doing way too much online shopping.  Some of it out of necessity but most of it out of boredom.  In the past two week I’ve ordered 6 outdoor pillows, 2 chair cushions, artificial eucalyptus branches, 6 rugs (three of them in this post), a water hose, a chandelier, makeup, a toilet seat, two topiary bushes, a fiddle leaf tree and removable wallpaper.  Totally random I know, but all necessary right!?

The three rugs that were delivered yesterday are for the outdoor sitting area out back (side note, the other 3 rugs are for the porch in the front).  The three rugs for the backyard are 7 x 10 and in the same color family.  A gray, greige, taupe, cream color scheme.  The furniture is espresso color and my existing cushions and pillows are a mix of all the colors mentioned.  The perfect rug will be the foundation piece that will work with all the colors and style of my existing décor.  All three rugs I chose fit the bill perfectly.

As usual, I love them all and can’t decide which outdoor rug looks best.  I don’t need three rugs for one sitting area so decisions must be made.  Time to call in reinforcements for choosing an outdoor rug for my space.  That is, time to post to Instagram and let IG friends decide.  After all, there is no wrong answer because I love them all and I trust that the people who follow me and watch my stories have good taste so I’m totally comfortable with taking in outside opinions and choosing the rug that gets the popular votes.  Crowd sourcing at its finest.

First, here are the three contenders.  All three of these rugs were purchased from target.com.  Click any title to link straight to the rug for more details.  All of these rugs are worth keeping, but I only need one so sadly, two much be returned cuz I can’t keep them all ☹.

Outdoor Rug

Opalhouse Desert Hatch Rug– First Impression: this rug is beautiful.  Looks expensive.  Lighter in weight and softer than the other two rugs.  Does not look or feel “outdoor”.  Fringe detail is intricate (am worried the fringe will never lay “right” in the outdoor elements).  Definitely a rug than can be used and look great indoor.  Actual color is more gray than what picture shows.

Project 62 Left Right Left Rug – First Impression: A great mix of all the colors in my decor.  More beige than gray.  Thicker and seems heartier for outdoor weather.

Project 62 Shifted Chevron Rug – First Impression: The most modern looking rug of the three.  Similar in weight and feel to the Right Left Right rug.  Feels more “outdoor” hearty.  The side showing is actually the bottom side.  The top side is much darker (almost black) and a little busy but by using both sides essentially get two rugs in one.  I would use the side showing in picture.

Without further adiue, the rug that received the most votes for looking the “best” with my existing decor is…

wait.

for.

it….

If you voted on the Instagram poll to help me decide which rug will look best with my outdoor furniture THANK YOU!  I truly like all three of the rug options and was completely overwhelmed with which one to use.  Thanks to your opinions I am keeping the crowd favorite which is ZIG ZAG.  The runner up was DIAMOND and not far behind DIAMOND was STRIPE.
