A step by step guide for DIY book decor. Learn how to make personalized stamped stacked books that have a farmhouse, vintage, rustic home feel. Use this decor to decorate shelves, desks or end tables around your home or office. A neutral and natural country glam look that is easy to make and can be customized and personalized.
Start with a book
To begin, select 3 or more paperback books of any size. Only paperback books will work for this project. Hardback books will not work!
Next, tear the cover completely off the book. Make sure that when ripping off the cover from the spine that you tear the paper carefully so that part of the paper is still attached. The goal is to leave a clean, natural, plain white torn paper residual on the spine.
Once the book covers are removed, decide what saying you would like to stamp on them. Some ideas are:
HOME / SWEET /HOME
LIVE/ LAUGH/ LOVE
LOVE / LIVES/ HERE
LET’S/STAY/HOME
BLESS/OUR/HOME
THIS/IS/US
Once a saying is chosen (or you can choose to stamp your last name, initials or any other personalized saying or words) stamp the book spines. Keep in mind you don’t want the stamping to be perfect. Off centered or miss aligned stamping adds to the character of the decor you are making!
After the books are stamped (this example shows three books but can use as many books as your decor needs) stack the books so the saying flows in the order intended. Remember to consider if you are going to use your book decor laying on its end or upright because that will dictate how you order the books.
Next, take twine, string or ribbon of your choice and bind the books together. For three books I usually wrap the twine 4-5 times around the book. For larger books I will wrap the twine 8-10 times. Finish with a knot and a bow.
Lastly, affix a charm, bead, or bobble to the book for an added element of design. Here I used an old earring. Can use an old key, bead heart or any trinket you have laying around the house.
