5 Tips on How to Master your Master Bedroom

With a blended family and four kids growing up in our house finding a space without 2-8 eyes constantly upon us was challenging.  When the kids were young I created the “stop and hold at the threshold” rule.  From the kids childhood to teen years they knew that once they hit the master bedroom threshold, they had to STOP!  They could enter when given permission.  This resulted in having a quasi kid free space in our home.  It was our own parent Narnia of sorts.  Here are 5 tips on how to master your master bedroom if you have the luxury of creating your own parent Narnia in your home.

5 Tips:

  • Eliminate clutter – This will make any room appear bigger.  If you only get one space to yourself, let the clutter gather elsewhere!
  • Use only necessary furniture – Have a big closet? Put the chest of drawers in there.  Free up space for other necessities (like a sitting area or desk).
  • Keep the bed frame simple – A decorative headboard and small foot board is enough.  Stay away from 4 poster bulky frames that takes up visual space that will make a room appear smaller.
  • Try to make room for a comfortable chair or chaise – Great for daytime resting, reading (without falling asleep like I do every time I read in bed).  Use the chair or chaise to decorate with some cute pillows and throw.
  • Add a desk – A personal working space to either work from home, shop on-line or pay bills.

If you can master your master, you may never need to come out of your room (or want to!)
