FOUR WAYS TO USE & STYLE A TRAY – FROM 2ND HAND DRAB TO DIY FAB

Over the weekend I dropped off donations to the 2nd hand store and decided to take a look around while I was there.  I spotted a solid wood and cane bottom tray for only $3.  The cane matches my home aesthetic perfectly, the trim dark wood not so much.  The dark wood may work for some but for me, I’ve spent the last year slowly removing every speck of dark wood in my home so I really don’t want to bring it back in!  Since it’s a rainy Saturday and Rick went down to the lake I decided to go ahead and DIY this tray to make it go from drab to fab and it only took about 10 min!  With the tray refresh I’m able to use it and style it in lots of ways around my house.   Four ways to use a tray – from 2nd hand drab to DIY fab!

But first a little DIY - from drab to fab!

This cane and wood tray is a great 2nd hand find
To protect the cane bottom from paint, I used some blue painters tape
Some of my favorite DIY projects stem from great 2nd hand finds that I can make from drab to fab quick and easy!
Once I have the cane protected I grabbed some white paint that I already had in the garage
Had I bought paint I would have chosen a white flat paint. However, since this is a quick and easy DIY project I just went with what I already had which happens to be this white gloss paint. Not ideal (flat is better) but will do the trick!
The entire DIY tray update from drab to fab has taken less than 10 minutes up to this point. Now it's time to wait...and wait...and wait....for the paint to dry.
Once painted (I sprayed 2 coats) and wait to dry (the longest part of the project) peel pack the blue painter tape
The updated tray is ready for styling! Check out how I styled mine below!

Use tray on a couch our foot rest for books, candles or drinks. Purposeful and pretty decor in your room!
Trays are great to use for a single meal service. This tray becomes a part of the tablesetting adding to its overall charm
Trays serve as excellent base pieces for centerpieces and tablescapes. Look how cute it looks with a few Easter decorations on it sitting on the kitchen island
The tray serves as a pretty decorative display leaning against the backsplash in the kitchen. No one even realizes that it's purpose is to hide the unsightly outlets behind it!
Sneak a peak behind the tray. The tray hides ugly outlets. Another great use for this $3 2nd hand store find!
