Inbetweener Style is to dress age appropriate and stylish while looking effortlessly put together and classy. Last week I posted a blog on Inbetweener Style Don’ts. Today, it’s the style Do’s. Start by not focusing on trends. Inbetweeners should always lean toward wearing the classics. The key is to look effortless instead of looking like we are trying hard to look cool or young. Inbetweener style is as much about attitude as it is about the clothes. Two posts on inbetweener style are Inbetweener Style Don’ts (here) and 5 “Basics” You Must Have in Your Closet (here). For now, read on for Inbetweener Style Do’s below!
Inbetweener Style Do's
White Button Down Top
A nice white button-down top is a shirt for all occasions. Every inbetweener needs to have their own perfect white button down top to complete their closet. It doesn’t get classier than a classy crisp button down. Can you even imagine a place that wearing a white button down wouldn’t be appropriate for an inbetweener? Me neither. It can be worn everywhere. The variety is in the material and sleeve length. Whether you prefer a short sleeve linen, or a long sleeve oxford tucked in or out. Any of which are a great inbetweener wardrobe “do”.
Pencil Skirt
Pencil skirts look good on everyone no matter the shape or size. They are style approved especially for the inbetweener. They are very versatile as well. Make sure the skirt hits at the knee or below. Black is the best color option for inbetweeners. Ensure it fits snug without being too tight or restrictive. You don’t want it to curve around your butt. Pencil skirts can be worn with or without tights (depending on temperature) and looks good with almost every shoe option (booties, wedges, pumps, OTK boots, flats).
Outerwear
Invest in outerwear. Outerwear is worn on constant repeat and it’s the first thing people see about your outfit. Get something classic and versatile that will make any outfit look polished and pulled together. Did you see the under $40 Thread & Supply pea coat I featured in my blog a few weeks ago? It’s one of the best coats I’ve purchased for the price point. Check it out here.
Cardigans & Blazers
The perfect layering pieces and so functional. Brings in a chic, professional freshness to any wardrobe. Great year-round staple. Functional in cooler temps when need an extra layer and useful in warmer months when dining or working in an air-conditioned restaurant or office. Wear structured blazers in fall and winter and flowy thin cardigans in spring and summer. Cardigans and blazers look great with skirts, trousers and jeans. They can also be added to pretty much any look whether you are styling a professional, casual or sporty outfit.
Dark Jeans
Whether you prefer skinny, boot cut or straight leg, opt for a well fit pair of dark colored jeans. Jeans look great dressed up or down and the dark color will always be more slimming.
Totes & Handbags
Handbags and totes are a timeless accessory and will never go out of style. The right bag will complement any outfit. Go for a classic structured handbag instead of a trendy one. Also, inbetweeners should use their shoes and handbags individually as an accessory and never match them together. Carry a red bag for a pop of color or the red mules to make that outfit pop. Just don’t style them together and wear with the same outfit.
