What’s funny about this light hack is that it has nothing to do with an actual light. Which is great because that means no messing with electrical wires! The light hack is really more of a “get the pretty aesthetic of a light without actually using a light” hack.
The “light hack” came about when I was updating our kitchen pantry (check out the entire pantry transformation blog post HERE). The pantry has an existing long and bright rectangular fluorescent light. When I was updating the space I had every intention of changing out the light for something more aesthetic and decorative. However, the existing pantry light was bright (what the pantry needed) and worked it just wasn’t very pretty. Instead of changing it, I decided to keep the existing rectangle fluorescent light and came up with this “light” hack to make it pretty.
For the light hack I needed two items. A large lantern with a handle that matched my pantry decor (I found a large candle lantern for under $30 at Home Goods) and an “S” hook. I took the small “S” hook and attached one end to the handle of the lantern. The other end of the “S” hook was attached to the existing light (I made sure to center the lantern under the existing light). Now the lantern “light” hangs down from the center of the room below the existing light and appears to be a decorative light source. However, it is not a light source at all just a pretty decor piece. When looking into the pantry from the kitchen you don’t even know that the candle lantern isn’t a real light! A great light hack!
