Putting the finishing touches on the house holiday decor and another TO-DO project checked off the never-ending list. One thing that didn’t even make the TO-DO list this year is holiday cards. I’ve decided to forego the tradition this year. Why I’m not sending out Christmas cards you ask? Well, let me tell ya the reasons why!
Time
As in, there just isn’t any! I’ve prioritized my time over the holiday season. For me, sending out holiday cards entails designing, ordering, stuffing, addressing and mailing. None of which made the cut for my TO DO priorities this year.
Cost
When I buy holiday cards I usually order between 80-120 custom cards plus .55 for one stamp to mail! I’ve added it up and honestly, the price I pay to send out cards is the equivalent of a year of college textbooks for one of the kids.
Social media
You want updates on me, my family, our home etc.? Well, anything you want to know is probably on the blog, Facebook or Instagram. I’ve shared more of myself and my family this past year than ever before. You don’t need a card at Christmas to know exactly what’s happening here. As for the sentiment of me wishing my friends, family and loved ones Happy Holidays….well, if you are close to me then that will be covered in person or by a telephone or ZOOM call. If we are peripheral friends, family or acquaintances …..well, Happy Holidays.
My kids are grown
I used to like to send (and receive) family pics when kids were young, growing and changing. It was/is fun to see how braces, glow ups and puberty changes the kids in a years time. Now, my four kids are all adults (20. 21, 22, 23) and not much is changing around here in this stage of our lives right now.
So this is the first year in (well ever) that I haven’t sent out holiday cards. I do feel a little “grinchy” about not forcing myself to prioritize my time and just do it. However, I get over it real quick when I realize I have eight other things that I still need to do this evening before I go to bed and then get up tomorrow morning early for work then come home after work to make a grocery list for shopping and cooking next week and then finish cleaning the basement for company then….. well you get the drift. Holiday cards 2020 just aren’t going to happen. Unless my husband or the kids help out. BAHA HA HA HA HA. Now that would be a Christmas miracle. LOL
Love your reasoning. Loved your blog. I think I still have the past pics you posted. I enjoy reading your posts & have let people know about Tami In-Between. Hope we get to see you all through the holidays-even social distancing.
Porch cocktails!
