Yeti backflip cooler review

Yeti Hopper Backflip Review

Tomorrow is the Kentucky vs Tennessee rivalry football game in Lexington (Rick is a graduate of UK and Ella currently goes to UT).  With four kids in college we go to lots of games and tailgate often.  When we tailgate we bring the Yeti cooler.  Here is a review of the Yeti Hopper Backflip 24.

Before purchasing the Yeti Backflip I had the Yeti Hopper soft sided cooler shoulder bag and hated it.  The mouth opening was small, it was awkward to pack and unless you have the strength of Thor it was nearly impossible to haul around by the shoulder strap when it was packed full.  After being mad at myself for buying such an expensive cooler to have it sit unused in the closet I cut my losses and sold it.  However, all our other coolers couldn’t compare to Yeti’s ice retention and durability so I wasn’t turned off by the brand as much as the design of the cooler I bought.  So when I came across the Yeti Hopper Backflip 24 I was willing to spend the money again to give it a go and I have not been disappointed.

Here is my Yeti Hopper Backflip Review:

It’s practical.  By having the option to wear as a backpack it frees up your hands to be used for other things.

It’s durable and built to last.  This pack is no exception. All the Yeti coolers are made well.  They are made to not tear or puncture and resistant to heat, abrasions and mold.  You can give the cooler a beating and it will hold up.

Great ice retention – I’ve had other (non Yeti) soft sided coolers and within a couple hours water is melting from the bag onto me, in the car, everywhere.  The Yeti Backflip is insulated and ours will hold ice for almost 3 days and absolutely no leaking.

Waterproof – You can fill this cooler with water, tip it upside down and absolutely no water will run out.  One reason is the zipper is designed using “hydrolock” and it is somewhat hard to pull open and closed but for the watertight seal, a high performing zipper is necessary so its a trade off I can deal with.

Comfortable when fully loaded.  Hands down the best part of this cooler and why I love it.  Any cooler is heavy when loaded down with ice, cans and bottles.  This cooler is tall and wide so when packed full the weight is distributed so it is easy to carry.  It also has thick, padded shoulder straps and a chest strap.  All very comfortable and easy to adjust and use.

Other great features.  The Yeti Backflip has three handles.  One on the top and two on the sides.  They are super strong and thick so it’s is also very easy to carry in front of you also.  It also has a large rectangle base making it easy to stand on its own while loading or unloading.  It has a wide lid that when unzipped all the way around reveals a large opening.

If you are looking for a high quality cooler that is durable and comfortable to carry when loaded the Yeti Hopper Backflip 24 cooler is a great choice.

Also, if you are wondering  what spirit wear I’ll be wearing to the game, it’s neither!  I’m not picking a side (that’s a no win situation for me!)   Instead of wearing either school colors I will be wearing my favorite white crew neck Ralph Lauren sweatshirt and call it even.

Update: Univ of TN won the game.  Ella was very happy, Rick was not…
