Today has been surprisingly quiet considering yesterday we closed on what is sure to be the biggest DIY home renovation project of my life. A major home interior and exterior renovation is very near! Yesterday we purchased a home nestled on the side of a mountain in Red River Gorge. Walking around the old country home I quickly envisioned how we would be making it into our dream country lodge for a home away from home. Which basically means if anybody is looking for me over the next 6 months you will probably find me at the Gorge! With that in mind, I’m giving myself a few days at home in Louisville to decompress from one phase (looking for the perfect property) to the next phase (renovating). This is the “calm before the storm” as renovations and big time DIY projects are set to begin this weekend.
So what’s all that have to do with C3 +v(4)? With the country house purchase Rick and I have started to execute our retirement plan which I put into a formula C3 + v(4). It’s fun…not real math! It sums up what Rick and I are striving for in our retirement. Its just a silly symbol that serves as a reminder of our goals and what we hope the future holds for us as we continue to enjoy our current “in between” phase of life.
C3 = City, Country & Coastal
The 3 C’s stand for city, country and coastal. This is representative of homes we hope to own in our future. One in the city (√ check – Louisville), one in the country (√ check – Red River Gorge) and in our future a coastal home in a warm climate near the ocean with pickleball courts and golf! Our dream coastal location is Kiawah Island. GOALS!
v(4) = Quarterly Vacations
The v stands for vacations and the four stands for 4x a year. Rick and I both enjoy traveling and hope we can continue to do so as we grow older together. The goal is to vacation and explore at least 4 times a year (quarterly). Currently we have been going out west to ski in the 1st quarter of the year, traveling somewhere warm, exotic and/or international the 2nd quarter of the year and traveling with family and friend the 3rd and 4th quarter of every year.
Who knows what the future will hold but as of today, we are wasting no time enjoying every second of this phase of life. Every day is a gift and I don’t want to take any of it for granted.
No matter what your life equation or retirement formula looks like for whatever phase of life you are currently at…make every day count. Godspeed.
