Office DIY room makeover

DIY Weekend Room Redo – Home Office

I’m constantly changing the way a room looks in my house.  Whether it be as simple as moving furniture around or as elaborate as full on construction.  I go from room to room and once I’ve made a full circuit I start back over again.  Do other people do this?  Do you also constantly want to update, re-organize or feel the need to change things up for a new fresh look?  If you say yes, have a space that needs a pick me up and don’t want to spend a lot of time or money you can make it happen!  With a DIY (do it yourself) attitude, some elbow grease and creativity an updated room is right around the corner.

Here is how my DIY weekend room redo – home office turned out.  Along with tips on how to transform a dark stuffy space to a light airy space that has become the new Tami in Between home office headquarters in less than 36 hours for under $200!

Paint – Biggest bang for your buck is to buy paint and refresh the color of a room.  In this case I was going from dark green to creamy white to lighten up the space.  Buy good quality paint with primer already in it so one coat will suffice (BIG time saver).

Use the right tools – When painting I used to edge ceiling, doors, windows and trim with a brush, and it would take forever.  Not anymore.  With this paint edger the time it takes to trim out a room with paint is cut in half and the lines are clean and straight!

Shop your home – Save money on décor, furniture and rugs by using what you already have in storage, the attic or borrow from other rooms in your home.  Still don’t have stuff?  Shop garage sales, vendor malls or 2nd hand stores to save money on decor.

Get creative – Repurpose, paint, cover, upcycle and reuse old stuff to make it something new or transform into something useful.  Use your imagination and the internet for ideas and how to’s.

Remove & re-arrange – Take out unwanted furniture and décor (if you love it, put in storage.  You will be surprised how easy it is to reuse something you love when you haven’t seen it in a while).  Throw away, sell or donate pieces you don’t love.  Re-arrange and re-decorate smaller spaces with tips to make space look bigger.  See Six ways to make a small space look bigger here.
