Make a room appear larger by putting light color on the walls

6 Ways to Make a Space Look Bigger

A couple weeks ago I updated my home office in a DIY weekend room redo on a dime (see post about it here and how I did it all for under $200!)  My goal for the room was to lighten it up, make it feel bigger and have it be more functional of a space for Tami In Between.  The room is approximately 12×11 and after my DIY redo the room feels twice as big.  What was once a room no one went into has become a great collaboration space that has been used every day since the updates.  The biggest upgrade is the room feels so much more spacious.  Here are tips to make any space in your home look look and feel bigger .

  • Use table with exposed legs to make room feel bigger.
  • Use light color on walls and rug.
  • Float furniture away from walls to create illusion of spaciousness.
  • Make use of hidden storage (the bins on bookshelf are packed with stuff)!
  • Hang artwork on walls higher than eye level to draw eyes upward.
  • Leave windows uncovered for natural light to give room more depth.

By following a few steps it’s easy to make a space look bigger.
