JENNA’S MINI ROOM REFRESH

Jenna is a junior at the University of Louisville.  She lives at home and commutes to school so she spends a lot of time in her bedroom.  After she saw how amazing Libby’s room refresh turned out (check out the blog on Libby’s room refresh HERE).  Jenna gave me the green light to update her room too!  The timing wasn’t great since I was in the midst of planning and preparing my dad’s move from Michigan to Louisville.  However, I still managed to knock out Jenna’s mini room refresh in a weekend.  I finished her room refresh just in time to move my dad the following weekend from his 60 acre homestead in Michigan to a 600 sq. ft. apartment in Louisville (which also included styling his new retirement community apartment for him – blog about the move and his log cabin styled apartment HERE).  For Jenna’s mini room refresh below are some before and after pics along with the details for what I did to complete her room update below!

After

The room update I did for Jenna’s bedroom is a “mini” room refresh since it took minimal time and minimal cost to refresh.   The biggest updates were painting the room (went with Sherwin Williams Alabaster) and the DIY IKEA desk hack.  The DIY IKEA desk hack has it’s own blog HERE.

I removed the old, outdated and mismatched furniture from both Jenna and Libby's rooms. I reused furniture from the master bedroom suite (each room got two pieces of furniture from the master bedroom set). With their bedrooms getting a lot of natural light the dark furniture looks much better in their space than it did in mine.
Living at home Jenna spends a lot of time in her bedroom. The DIY desk for two project (click pic for the blog post) works great for a study space and a hair/makeup station. She loves it!
I try to bring in mirrors to any room refresh and update project. Three reasons: adds height, reflects light and so many size, shape and decorative style options.
Jenna's bathroom was updated with new storage solutions. Baskets to hide the clutter and painted the medicine cabinet the same color as the walls (Sherwin Williams Alabaster).
Not much was purchased for the room. I did buy a modern headboard to replace the dark and dated wood one she had. I also added a simple white comforter and bed skirt. The bed skirt hides baskets under the bed used for extra storage.
This DIY desk for two project took less than an hour to make and cost less than $130 (only three parts needed)! Click this picture for the post on the desk.

Before

Before the mini refresh Jenna’s room had some easily solvable issues.  Jenna’s room was in desperate need of organization solutions.  I brought in several baskets, bins, drawers and ways to hide clutter.  The DIY desk also gave Jenna an additional “living space”.   The existing rug was way too small for Jenna’s room.  With a great 2nd hand store find a larger rug helps update the room.
