Phone Sanitizing Device

The COVID-19 virus is no joke.  Never before in my lifetime has travelling, schools, offices and major sporting events been closed or cancelled.  I have four kids in college who were all told their universities are closed until the end of the month.  Ella and Jenna both had flights this week that they cancelled.  Rick and Hayden planned to attend the SEC basketball tournament that has been cancelled.  Companies are having employees work from home.  All in an effort to not spread the virus around.  We know it’s important to be hyper vigilant about washing hands thoroughly and often.  Think about this.  What about the cleanliness of our cell phones?  Our mobile devices are like a third hand.  For most of us it is an extension of our own arm.  Guess what….it’s a “hand” that never gets washed…Ewww!   Time to consider a phone sanitizing device.

THE FILTHY TRUTH

Mobile devices are 18x dirtier and contain MORE bacteria than a public toilet!  Our hands are washed regularly, but our phones are never washed.   As soon as you’re done scrubbing hands with hot soapy water for 20 seconds and reach for the cell phone, bacteria is transferred.  Any bacteria on the phone gets immediately transferred back to your hands.  Mobile devices are a breeding ground for bacteria.  Phones are stored in warm places which help bacteria grow.  Anything a phone comes into contact with allows the bacteria to be transferred (face and skin).

PHONESOAP

Even before the COVID-19 virus had us sanitizing and washing everything we touch, last year I was intrigued by a phone sanitizing device I saw on Shark Tank.  A charger that sanitizes smartphones.  I bought one for Rick for Christmas.  Little did I know that three months later, the device would be a significant part of our daily routines.

The company who makes the phone sanitizing device is PhoneSoap.  The device uses UV-C technology to kill 99.9% of germs.  The case fits all smartphones and most smartphone cases.  The PhoneSoap safely sanitizes anything (not just your phone) that fits inside the compartment.  Sanitation, cleanliness and virus fighting is on the forefront of everyone’s mind.  I’m satisfied with the purchase of this device.  It is sturdy, well made and comes with a lifetime warranty on the light bulbs.  The bulbs have a lifespan of 240,000 minutes (that’s 24,000 uses)!  If they burn out before then, they will be replaced at no cost.

HOW PHONESOAP WORKS

PhoneSoap uses medical grade UV-C light to kill germs, bacteria, viruses and pathogens on the surface of your phone.  Bulbs on the top and bottom of the PhoneSoap case provides a 360 degree disinfection.  It automatically shuts off after 10 minutes (the time needed to fully sanitize) so it will never overheat.   A blue indicator light turns on while sanitizing and shuts off when the process is complete.  The PhoneSoap kills germs without heat, liquid or chemicals.  Don’t forget it can sanitize more than just smartphones.  I have used it to sanitize jewelry, keys, credit cards, money, earbuds, sunglasses, watches, pens, TV remotes and more!

SANITIZE & CHARGE

PhoneSoap has two standard 5V USB ports on the back of the device.  Use your own phone’s charger cord to charge the phone.  Plug your charger cord into the back of the device and pass it through the port on the bottom of the device into the sanitizing space.  Once inside, plug it into your device to engage charging.  The PhoneSoap unit must be plugged into a wall electrical outlet (power adapter is included with the purchase of the device) for the sanitizing and charging to work.

PURCHASING

The PhoneSoap 3 retails for $80 and the PhoneSoap Pro is around $120 (the Pro has twice the lights and sanitizes in half the time – 5 min instead of 10).  I purchased mine directly from Phonesoap.com website HERE.  There is a note on the top of the website that says they are taking pre orders for the PhoneSoap 3 that will ship on April 15.  The company does have other products (check out the website for details).  I cannot account for any other devices as I only have the PhoneSoap 3.  I have also seen PhoneSoap 3 for sale at Amazon (currently unavailable) and QVC (also not currently available).  There are other UV-C sanitizing devices on the market HERE and HERE.
