Our backyard patio has been a sanctuary this year. With COVID and quarantine, the outdoor space has become a commonly used extension of our living space for all of us. I’ve spent hours on the backyard patio relaxing, watching TV, reading and working on the computer and blog. Now that fall is here (although with the current temps it certainly doesn’t feel like fall) I’ve been anticipating cooler temperatures and have worked to transition our patio for fall. Here are some things to consider if you want to transition your patio for fall and make it into a warm, cozy and inviting space for yourself, friends and family. to enjoy well into the cooler months.
Warmth
Get fired up! Outdoor firepits and fireplaces add character and gives off a cozy ambiance. Of course, it also provides much needed warmth when you need it as the temps start to drop. Having an outdoor fireplace or pit extends the usability of your outdoor patio season through fall and even into winter (maybe not the case for my Chicago and MI peeps). For us in Louisville and friends in the south that is definitely the case as we can enjoy our outdoor patio spaces throughout the four season when prepared. Fire pits and places are a must for a complete fall patio transition.
Comfort
Cushions, pillows and throws. Well made cushions, fuzzy pillows and thick throws will make a backyard patio relaxing and super cozy. They also provide texture and color to your space along with the warmth needed to make the space extra inviting to cuddle up and snuggle in!
Lighting
With days getting shorter and shorter, adding lighting to your patio space will ensure a comfortable space well into the evenings and late nights. Stringing bistro lights over your patio area work fabulous. Also use lanterns and candles for a warm and welcoming glow.
Fall blooms
Welcome fall into your outdoor space by swapping out summer planters and flowers for more suitable fall colors and blooms. This spring, I decided to go “faux” for most of my outdoor plantings. If you need a reminder or to catch up check out that blog post HERE. I reuse many of my faux plants, trees and shrubs year round (this is a huge value)! For color mums do the trick this time of year.
Looks fabulous !
