Wowza! Who knew mirrors were so expensive?! I didn’t realize how expensive until I started this DIY on a dime home gym update and wanted to incorporate a large mirror on the back wall. I quickly realized a one piece mirror (approx 8′ x 8′) would cost nearly $1000 for one solid mirror and over $600 for two pieces. Not acceptable for a DIY on a dime project! Therefore, here is a much less expensive alternative for a DIY mirror wall – home gym on a dime. This solution resulted in covering the 8′ x 8′ wall with mirrors for under $100! The back wall of the basement home gym. Wanted to place a large mirror on wall without spending $$$. This DIY solution cost less than $100!
What you will need
For the DIY mirror wall on a dime project I purchased fourteen Mainstay over the door full length dressing mirrors from Walmart here. The day I purchased them they were on sale for just $5.00 each! The only other item needed for this project is Scotch extremely strong two sided tape. I purchased 2 packages of tape for mounting the 14 mirrors for the 8′ x 8′ space I wanted to mirror. I cut the scotch adhesive in thirds and placed the cut squares in the four corners on the back of the mirrors and one at the top center and one at the bottom center.
Installation
Cut two 3 inch strips of mounting tape. Place one strip on the top and the other strip on the bottom of the back side of mirror. The double sided tape is very sticky. Be careful when handling. With the double sided sticky tape on the back of the mirror, place mirror on the wall. Continue to place mirrors with the sticky tape on the back to the wall in a row until you have covered the space you want to have the mirror on it. Next, using as step stool or ladder, place a second row of mirrors on top of the first row. Since the wall height in this basement was too short to start the first row of mirrors at the trim line, I placed the mirror directly on the floor and covered the trim in order to make the two mirrors stacked on one another to fit the height. Note, these mirrors are very flimsy (consider the price point). Be very careful when placing the mirrors on the wall.
