PHOTO FAILS!

“Laugh with me or laugh at me, either way, just keep smiling” – Tami Kraus

Hi friends!

One of the most common questions I’m asked about the blog is who takes the pictures.  My daughter Jenna has an eye for photography, spacial recognition and can get the shots I want quickly so she is my go to.  If Jenna is not around then Rick (my husband) will step in and take the pictures if he is available.  If neither are around I’ll take my own pics with the phone timer or a shutter remote.  Regardless of who snaps the pictures, on average it takes anywhere from 10-100 shots to get just one or two to use for the blog.  In turn, I end up with tons of bad pics and a few bloopers aka Photo Fails !

The great thing about creating my own website and blog is I can make a page like this to highlight some of my favorite ” photo fails ” and tell the story behind them.  Also, most of the pictures are links to the blog posts (just click the picture).  Click if you want to see the “good” 1 out of 100 picture that was actually used for the blog post or Instagram!

March 13, 2020 - Phone Sanitizing Device Blog

Another attempt at taking my own blog pics on the phone timer. I eventually do get a well timed shot but not before I take lots of these pics first! Here I was trying to take it in portrait mode to highlight the sanitizer for the blog. Click the picture for the blog and the good pic I finally got!

March 7, 2020 - #OOTD What I'm Wearing

I took these pics for an #OOTD post on Instagram. Not sure what exactly I was going for in the series of shots though. An action shot of starting the grill? If I recall, I ended up getting a half way decent shot that was with my head cut off. Sadly, on many days those are def my best pics. ha ha.

March 6, 2020 - Instagram Post

In most instances I try to have Jenna or Rick take my blog pics. In a pinch I will use a shutter remote or the timer on my phone. This was a timer day and my timing was so bad!

March 4, 2020 - DIY Home Gym on a Dime Blog

The DIY home gym turned out so great I was excited to take some pics for the blog post. I had the brilliant idea that I wanted to sit crossed legged and balance on top of the stability ball and take a picture. As you can see, that didn't work (Jenna said it wouldn't...I tried anyway....she was right). Click the pic to check out the blog post of the pics we did get in the gym and the awesome finished space!

Everyday

A behind the scene look at how almost every photo shoot in our back yard starts. I can't tell you how many piles of poop I have photo shopped out of blog pictures because of you know who....hey, check it out...he is actually looking at the camera...and mocking me.

March 9, 2020 - Dudley Stephens Fleece Blog

This photo shoot was taken in the newly remodeled basement and quickly went sideways. I was trying to "look casual" in my fleece and bear slippers. Nailed it. We ended up shooting outside (on a different day) for the blog post pics. They turned out MUCH better! Click pic for blog and pics that were used.

#OOTD - Instagram Post

There are times I test shoot mirror selfies to see how the lighting looks for my #OOTD posts. Apparently here I was testing the light in the morning because I'm in still in my PJ's and by the look of my face...I just woke up. Clearly not an #inbetweener #ootd look I'm proud of or will ever be seen on Insta!

Mar 2, 2020 - J Crew Cable Knit Balloon Sleeve Sweater Blog

After a few weeks of terrible weather I was excited to get outside to take some pictures for the blog post on this sweater. I tried to corner Gus into a few shots with me. This is about the best one I got. He refused to look at the camera. It's uncanny how much he hates being photographed and will purposely look everywhere EXCEPTtoward the camera lens.

Feb 27, 2019 - Instagram Post

Taking a picture yourself requires coordination, timing and the ability to hide the shutter remote in your hand. This day, I clearly failed on all counts. Besides, taking a picture on a pile of old carpet was a bad idea from the get go and all of the carpet pictures were scrapped (along with the carpet)!

Jan 6, 2019 - Thread & Supply Pea Coat Blog

Went to the park for pictures in the coat for the Thread & Supply Pea Coat blog. The weather was cold and the wind was whipping. At this point, I have started to figure out that dogs and the wind are the biggest obstacles to taking good blog pics! Click picture for link to blog. The pictures turned out pretty good considering how cold and windy it was that day!

Dec 30, 2019 - Instagram Post

We were in VA for Hayden's basketball game and decided to take in some sights in between games. Rick took about 100 pics and 98 of them were ruined because of the wind. #bloggerprobs

Dec 22, 2019 - Instagram Post

Between trying to get Gus to look at the camera and not crack up at how miserable he looks by being in my pics I ended up with a lot of these pics of him looking everywhere but toward the camera. I finally did get a good pic for Instagram. I don't remember anything about this shoot being this funny though.

Dec 17, 2019 - Fair Isle Sweaters Blog

Gus is not a fan of taking pics for the blog. He usually high tails it as soon as he sees the camera come out. Even with the cheese I had in my hand to bribe him, his face says it all about how miserable he is. In his defense, he didn't get moody until I brought out the reindeer antlers. We did finally get some really good shots (with Gus) in the end. Click the pic for a link to the blog.

Dec 20, 2019 - Tartan Holiday Style Blog

There were days I would rush home from work in the winter months in order to get a couple shots taken before it got too dark. This was also the first chance Gus had to go out for the day. As you can see, some shots had to wait for him to finish doing his business and go back inside.

Dec 22, 2019 - Instagram Post

I took a lot of pictures for #8daysoftartan for the blog and instagram. When I was at my sister's house in LA I decided to take advantage of the warmer temps and family pets. However, a photo shoot with dogs was similar to raising children....it took a village! Click picture for the Tartan Holiday Style blog and the final pics. Hint: the dogs eventually all cooperated!

Nov 12, 2019 - Birth of a Blog Blog

This was the first photo shoot for my very first blog. I wanted to have my computer in the background showing a picture of my family. Just as we were ready to shoot, my computer battery died. Go figure. This was a sign of all that was to come with creating my own website and blog. Nothing really goes as planned. Click the picture to link to the blog for the picture used (notice computer solution).
