Carpe(t) Diem – Seize the Day and the Rug! 5 Rug Decorating Ideas

I’m always looking for ways to refresh and energize a space without having to purchase new furniture and decor which can be expensive One way to do this that satisfies my persistent room tinkering is decorating using rugs or rug decorating.  While I still fiddle with moving around furniture from room to room and will sometimes paint a room to refresh it (which is time consuming and messy), with rugs, I can make a big impact on a small budget to update a room.  Rugs can be, but don’t have to be expensive.  Check out Target, Meijer and Costco for great rug selections on a conservative budget.  Here are 5 rug decorating ideas for a quick room pick me up.

  • You don’t have to paint walls to add color, add a bold printed rug instead.
  • If your floors don’t match the decor, are in bad shape or have a spot that needs covering, opt for a room sized area rug.
  • Want to add a color to a neutral area rug, layer it with an accent rug on top.
  • Add contrast to a dark floor by using a light rug or a dark rug on a light floor.  It doesn’t seem like it would be a statement but the contrast will make the space pop.
  • Spice up a plain room by adding a rug with texture.
