I love to decorate, redecorate, organize and re-organize our home. Since I’m constantly tinkering and looking for ways to improve a space I don’t want to spend a lot of time or money on updating. I have four kids, a job, a website/blog and currently in the throws of holiday decorating and Christmas shopping. That is why I love the DIY room weekend redo projects! Nothing is more gratifying than seeing a big result for little time and money. Last week my DIY weekend room redo was the master bedroom (project details, links and before/after pictures here). Several people have asked how to choose a room to re-do in my home. If you are looking for a DIY weekend room to redo in your own home, here is what I consider before starting any DIY home project:
- Keep it in perspective. Choose a project you know you can start, execute and finish in a weekend. Consider painting, papering, changing hardware, light fixtures re-organizing furniture and updating wall decor.
- Dare to do something different. To design on a dime you must get creative and think out of the box. Can you reuse, re-purpose or up-cycle (anything) you already have in your home or garage? You don’t have to be creative or “good” at design or coming up with ideas. Use the internet, YouTube, Pinterest for getting ideas. There are less expensive ways to do and make anything.
- Think small. Remember that the smallest changes can make the biggest impact. This weekend for my DIY Weekend Room Redo I only updated and changed TWO things in the space. The rest was creative decorating.
